  • ANy X-factor fans out there?

Why did Laura have to go?

I did think that she and Daniel were the worst this week - but Daniel should definitely have gone.

Why does Ruth keep ending up in the bottom two, i don't understand.

And where has Rachel's confidence gone?

    So many questions...

Um, I have to admit *coughs with embarrassment* that I, er, voted for Daniel last week - just because he's such a sweetie and I thought he didn't deserve the nastiness. I do think the line-up is the strongest ever this year. Agree Laura shouldn't have gone. My money's on Alexandra or Ruth this year.
And, um, I was really glad (in a horrified sort of way) that John Sergeant came through again on Strictly. I KNOW it's not really fair, but I love an underdog and I will never forget the sight of him marching along like the Frog Prince dragging Kristina behind him as if she was a sack of rubbish.

Oh, well, now I know. I thought this was a talent contest!!

Actually I think she's in the wrong competition. She's a singer/songwriter and I'd say she was more a jazz singer than anything. To put her in that pop box isn't really working and that's why I think her confidence went. Funny, but the first week I thought everyone else should just go home. I can't stand Daniel, for all his sob story, or that little boy either. They just Do Not Have the X-Factor and will sink into obscurity in years to come whereas you can bet that the likes of Laura, Alexander and Ruth will have a career of some longevity - the latter because she has the advantage of speaking Spanish so will appeal to Europe and South America.

I thought Rachel should have gone this week. She was so off key! There was a story about her on the front page of one of the tabloids by the husband of one of her victims - an OAP he claims she beat up. Didn't stop to read it but she may have and thought she was finished. But then there's a;so this story about Laura's boyfriend that people may be allowing themselves to believe too. Who knows? I wonder if Diana will get better. Isn't Cheryl fab!

Oh, well, now I know. I thought this was a talent contest!!

    And entertainment.
I can't warm to Rachel, or Owen (however you spell it) either - he's very sweet but I agree he doesn't have the X Factor. I really like JLS, but they seem to have gone down hill a bit, as if Louis is 'morphing' them into the average boy band which they clearly arent. I think Alexandra is superb - and the only reason she might not win it is that she's too much like Leona.
But the X Factor just doesn't stand up to Strictly. Strictly is the best!

Diana is my favourite by far.

Apparently, Laura has been shaggin the X-factor executive, which is why she was voted off.

Rachel has an amazing voice, but she would terrify me in real life.

I agree - don't like Daniel, for all his sob story, or the little boy. Very bland.

But I think Diana is brill.

I wish the wouldn't sing Mariah Carey songs, though. I don't consider that entertainment. It's vile.

Laura's boyfriend is nothing to do with the judges, though. He has his own company that buses people in to see the show, so in that sense, yes, he is connected. But he doesn't know the judges. I think it's a shame how it's been misconstrued.

Dinah is good, I agree. They stil don't know if she can sing again this week. I should be writing, but seem to be intent on wasting time today. I'm into Part 3 of a s e rial and in my head I've already finished it, though on the page are only 50 words.

I believe Daniel should have gone this week. He's got an all right voice but he has zip x-factor and I tend to have a little catnap when he sings. Agree about the young boy too. If he were to win he would be as quickly forgotten as most of the other X Factor winners (leaving aside Leona and Will of course - can you remember any of the other winners?).

Ruth is a real rock chick and I do like her but I really like Laura too. She shouldn't have sat at that piano and sang. Yes, it is fabulous to me when they can do more than perform karaoke - when they are truly talented and can write songs, play instruments and sing in tune too, well, I'm in awe. But maybe it was the song or maybe it was her lack of confidence but she didn't hit the mark on Saturday in my opinion.

Alexandra was fabulous and I almost burst into tears. The only other person who has done that to me on a show like X Factor was Leona. I'd love Alexandra to stay to the end.

JLS, I thought this week were the best I'd seen of them yet. Perhaps I like pop type boy bands and just didn't realise it.

And Rachel. What were the judges getting that I wasn't? The song was dreadful. She was off key, her personality had completely disappeared and I figured after watching her VT that if anyone was out there thinking they'd represent her they might think again, might actually think she'd be waaaayyy too difficult to work with. She's seems to be a volatile one that one - wouldn't like to get on the wrong side of her.

Agree, Sharon. With everything. I still am sorry to see Laura go ahead of those two Eugh! an and the old fat geezer. Even at her worst she is tons better than them. But did you notice how the piano kept on playing even after she got up. Now that shows some X-factpr!

Jem, I didn't, I just saw that little fact in the link you posted but I hadn't noticed the piano playing. I like to think I'm a writer but I'm not observant at all

I don't get why the judges still have the final vote. In American Idol (which I love) it goes down to the bottom two contestants to create a bit of suspense and the one with the lowest number of votes then gets told they are out and they sing a final song. I think X Factor should be that way, not with the judges saying I'll keep mine and I'll keep mine and the other 2 competing to out-do each other. Louis had a perfect opportunity to see who actually did get the lowest votes by making it 2-2. But he's such a to**er, why am I surprised?

They do that if it goes to a draw but he must have felt strongly enough about Ruth's performance to keep her on - and I admit she did perform more convincingly than Laura that last time. It's like Laura had already got her coat and was heading for the door.

God, I can't wait for this tonight. Not that it's the highlight of my week or anything...

I couldn't believe the results last week. Tonight it's got to be the kid, or Rachel, or the guy who's wife passed away...surely?!

My fave is, Diana... but will she be well enough?

    The suspense is killing me!

Amiria - I too am in suspenders, as Frankie Howerd used to say! But my heart has gone out of the competition now Laura has gone and Ugh!-an and the old guy with the dead wife are still in it.

    For any Charlie Brooker fans:

I don;t even watch the X Factor and this made me weep with laughter!

'she's got the most interesting voice: sometimes she lets out curious little peeps and whistles when she sings, as though she's accompanied by a baby bird randomly blowing air across the top of an empty milk bottle'

    That bit especially.

Good article! I have to say I've almost lost interest in the X Factor now: it's sooo predictable and none of this year's entries really has the X Factor. And the styling of them just 'blands' them all into a kind of homogenous nonentity.
OK, Jem, you can hit me if you want.
