If you're looking for critiquing and support for your work then, you're right, the best thing to do is to join and appropriate group, and start responding to the other members' work, as well as uploading a piece of your own. Do have a look at which are the busier groups, as they do vary.

And if you get stuck, just stand here in the forum and shout, and someone will be along to help.

What genre would you say your novel is?

Hi and thanks for the welcome. I'm writing historical fiction and my novel is set in 1943-1945, mainly in France.

Hi Suzy, and welcome to WW. I hope you enjoy your time with us. Currently there isn't a historical fiction group, although you could always propose one as there are others on the site who write the same genre. But for now you could try Intensive Critique as it is an all-genre group.

Whichever group you decide to join they are all based on reciprocation, so if you join one and give comments on other's work I'm sure you'll quickly receive comments on yours in return.

I agree with Manusha's comments - and other coments too. You may want to join a group like Intensive Critique. It doesn't matter if the group is not historical fiction, as may of the groups encompass many genres.

Noting your interest in historical fiction, you may be interested in a forthcoming conference (with agent pitches, etc) which looks really good: www.hns-conference.org.uk

I love being a member of WriteWords. I've got so much from it - and hopefully given to others too. It's give and take, you get what you put into it.
