Does anyone know how to set up a side bar which can be used to jump to a set location within a word document?

I am spending more and more time scrolling through the document. Frankly, I would prefer to be writing.

    Happy New Year

Not sure about a side bar facility, but you can split the doc into sections headed by a key word which you could jump to using the 'Find' function. But why is the document so long? Is it just a very long chapter or are you writing a whole story in one document? Why don't you split it into chapters or sections in different documents?

    View - Document Map.

(That's for word 2003. I know they faffed about with the interface and hid all the useful things in later versions, but if you search in help for "Document map" you'll get there.)

(ps: You need to set chapter and scene headings as you go to make it useful. EG: I use Ctrl+Alt+1 to go to header 1 style for chapters and Ctrl+Alt+2 to go to header 2 style for scene headings.)
