Long time occasional lurker, I have decided to join because I like the content of this site and I believe membership will make me more disciplined. And it might be fun.

After fannying about for too many years writing, first, screenplays and the occasional poem, then trying to write a novel, I have at last realised that my writing style and disposition make my natural home the short story.

    Duh. All around the houses.

Am excited to, at last, come to this realisation and will be joining the short story group (if there's room in it for me) and uploading some work when I have something ready.

I'd still like to have a crack at a (short) novel one day, though!

So, hi to all, I look forward to talking with you.

Good to see you're no longer lurking.
As a part member you can join one group and upload one piece of work, and you'll find the Short Story Group here: http://www.writewords.org.uk/groups/68.asp

Thanks, both, and thanks for the link, Naomi, will join (if they'll have me!) towards the end of month's free trial for the sake of continuity. Can't spend £20 at the moment, have to cough up for the cat's dental treatment tomorrow and even £20 is hard to find right now!

Lovely name, Naomi, do you like it? I went to school with a girl christened Naomi but she didn't like it and called herself by her middle name - Elaine. I could never understand it!

Yes, I've cast aside the dirty mac and stepped into the light. I feel so much cleaner and fresher now.

Judging by the large black item draped round your neck in a photo elsewhere on this site, I'm guessing you have some experience in this area.

I am a cat owner of only 10 months' standing and have not yet attained your level of cynicism about vet's bills, Gaius, but I am getting there.

I make a point of admiring the cat's sparkly white teeth every time she yawns, to ensure I get my money's worth. I'm approaching it on a sort of pay-to-view basis and it's working, because she yawns a lot.

P.S. How do you pronounce your name? Is it Geys, like Caius?

How do you pronounce your name?

Almost certainly, I pronounce it wrongly.

Guy-us. (Based on a certain amount of inertia and assumption. Also, Gees sounds silly as a name.)

Yes, Gees sound like a short form for Geezer.
