    Hello everyone,

I put my toe in the water and found it lovely and warm.

I joined the free first month scheme a couple of days ago. After spending hours reading the sections I could get access to, I am just about to sign up as a member. No time to waste, forget the free month, I want to join now.

As a little girl I was always told that my imagination would be my downfall, however that was usually when I had done something wrong and was trying to talk my way out of it. Perhaps now I can put it to some good.

Over the years I have always wanted to try writing short stories, but like many people never had the time or courage. Now retired I have the time, it is just the courage I need to find. I want to have a go, but I know I will need help if I am going to make it worthwhile.

After composing this email, I think I am up to my knees in the water.

    Hi Debbie,

I'm new to the site as well, so getting to know everyone is something I'm also nervous about. On the whole though I've found that fellow writers are a very welcoming and helpful bunch, so I'm sure that we'll be fine

Hiya Debbie, you sound just like me, I've always had a very fertile imagination

When I should have been concentrating at school, I was gazing out the window inventing scenarious and stories, or acting out little scenes in my head. I was forever getting told off by the teachers, and all my reports said I needed to get my head out of the clouds, lol.

Welcome to the site, you'll love it I hope, it's great here

Thank you all for making me feel welcome.

I am going to have a go and will welcome all the advice I can get. Once I have made a start on a short story, what do I do next to get members to have a look at it and comment on it?

Hi, Debbie, and welcome to WriteWords

When oyu're ready to upload a short story, join the Short Story Group which oyu'll find here:
    http://www.writewords.org.uk/groups/68.asp
Under the title you'll see 'click here to join the Group'.

To upload a piece of work click on your 'My WriteWords' in the top right hand corner of the page, scroll down and oyu'll see 'click here to upload new work', then follow the steps. Part way down step 2 you'll see Which Group? next to which should be Short Story Group. Click in the circle in front of the group and, when click Submit, it'll upload the work in that group, (otherwise it'll be uploaded in the Archive).

If you need any help, just give us a shout.

Thank you to everyone who has welcomed me and given advice so far. One thing it has done is to make me get on with putting words down on paper rather than just talking about doing it.

    Great,
    Debbie

Welcome Mideb and Tanya. I joined 2 or 3 weeks ago and I've really increased my output since being on here. Apart from the work I've uploaded here I'm still revising a novel and working on a radio script. I've learned a lot - showing not telling, watching for word repetition, not to use alternatives for "said"...... all of which helps in the revision work. Relax and enjoy yourself.
