Hello everyone, I am new here and canīt really figure out how this works yet. There is the story in my head that needs to get out, but although I have been thinking of it for a very long time it is quite terrifying putting it all down. I hope I can meet a few people here with whom to talk and share what I think may be the beginners "angst". Well, that is about it. Wishing everyone lots of inspiration and hopefully will meet some of you. L.

Hi, Luna, and welcome to WriteWords

I think most writers have a fear of beginning, because oyu want it to be 'right' first time, but what you actually get is the 'shitty first draft'. The important bit is the editing/rewriting, where you work on that first rough diamond of a draft, and polish it up into the story you orignially had in your head.

If you need any help in navigating the Site, just give us a shout.

Hi, Luna and welcome. Just get it down. Remember, you can't edit a blank page!

Thank you very much Naomi. I probably will need help. I am new to computers so this whole world still eludes me. I am grateful for the offer and grateful that someone talks to me. It means a lot. Thank you again. L.

As Jem says 'you can't edit a blank page', so it's just a case of getting it down and not worrying about it.
I'm a great believer in Hemingway's 'first write a million words', in other words, all writing exercise is good excercise. Writing is a skill, like learning a usical instrument, one can't expect to be a concert pianist overnight. Persistance is everything.
As a part member you can join one Group and upload one piece of work, however, I'm not sure, at this stage, it would be a good idea to upload a first draft as a flurry of critiques can knock one's confidence. So don't feel you have to jump in the deep end and show anyone oyur writing until you feel oyu've gone as far as oyu can with it, and need some feedback.

Hi Luna, and welcomd to WW.

I think the big thing to shake off is the idea - implanted by everyone from your first teacher to your most recent boss - that you have to get it right first time. You don't; you just have to get something down first time. Then you'll have a better idea of what you're trying to say, and the shape and size and style of it, and you can start shaping and styling it how it wants to be.

    Very good luck!

    Hi Luna

I know how you feel. I am a total newbie, wanna be writer too. Started the story that appeared in my head about four weeks ago now. I am happy with the story line but my tenses are bad and I am looking for help all over the net , i.e. like minded people who have all the same fears as me.

I fear nobody will ever want to read my work because it's pretty quickly apparent that I struggle with the tenses and grammar at times.

    Perhaps we could help eachother?

    Good luck with it x
