watched this last night on dvd , man , i have never watched anything as awful in a long time , the dialogue was so poor , if they could have got away with none , they would have just so they could show the earth exploding 100 diffrent ways with computers..

I watched it at the weekend - i enjoyed it (as a huge fan of disaster movies) but felt it was too long and could have been edited more sharply.

Also, it was all big effects and for me, not enough on how the disaster affected your average Joe. Nor was there enough tension built up.

Disappointing last line as well (which i'd been warned about before watching).

Plus not really memorable characters - not like the days of Towering Inferno and the original Poseiden Adventure, which both had an array of vivid characters which, as much as the plot and effects, brought those films to life.

With you on that one, Vinny - it is utter crap. However, The Day After Tomorrow is even more awful. Quite enjoyed the more recent Star Trek, mind...

I found this thread really funny, because I thought that movie was class. But what really made me laugh, is when it finished I agreed with my wife that it wasn't quite as good as The Day After Tomorrow.

That's the fun of reviews. When I read a book that I enjoy, I love reading the bad reviews more than the good.

How can you not enjoy this film? the special effects were excellent and the move delivered exactly what was expected of a disaster movie such as a fairly compelling story line, a few witty one liners, heart stopping action scenes that generally make you want to follow the film to the end even though, you knew fine well that the ending was going to be quasi - happy yet carry a hidden message about global climate change.

The phrase that is used in Hollywood is "Popcorn Muncher" and this film certainly keeps you entertained and engrossed till the very end.

It seems that with the introduction of better special effects on film's and less need for actual actors to "act" as it were - more and more people criticise films on how "believable" they are. Take Avatar for example - this is without question the biggest grossing film in history and one of the most popular films in the western world. Yet, there is still a small number of people who just feel the need to criticise it for its lack of a top billed actor, the made up story line or the way that the studio is some how evil because of the amount of money they have & will continue to make with the Avatar franchise.

Without offending anyone, I will stress that I really loathe people like this :-)

Why can't people just see movie's, enjoy the whole experience and enjoy the chance to lose yourself in a couple of hours of escapism

so, I am new, and just finding my feet; therefore don't really know if I am "supposed" to be replying here?! but just wanted to say enjoyed reading this thread, and this post, as I found myself thinking; oh good, people have a nice, clear, straightforward writing style. And, similarly; a straightforward attitude. Not too much highbrow intellectualism for me to be intimidated by, then? Though if I fancied some - could I find it?!!

And yes; simple fun and entertainment is great for just enjoying a movie!
