Hi,
We are a bespoke PR and social media company looking for some great writers to provide us with articles on holidaying in the UK.
We are unable to pay for the work you do, but will provide links back to any blog or website you may have.
If you fancy taking on this small project, then please email us a brief description of your experience, along with contact details, and we will get back to you asap.
Email pokepr@live.co.uk
We look forward to hearing from you!

Sorry to be curmudgeonly, but this doesn't sound like an incredibly rewarding deal, particularly coming from a commercial company. Does the PR client for the holiday work pay nothing for the material and activity provided?

As writers ourselves, we understand how difficult it is to get your work noticed, and thought this would be a good opportunity for someone to link back to their blog or website.
Perhaps it's an opportunity that would appeal more to new writers who have little experience to start building up their portfolio, or increase traffic to their blog.
We get paid very little, and in fact a lot of the work we do isn't charged for at all. It's a case of doing as much as possible for the client with a small budget.

With all due respect, Fiona, any PR company with a website that attracts zero comments on it's blog posts should probably look into a different line of work.

And it does sound like you're just fishing for freebies.

I'm sorry if it seems that way - we certainly don't want to take advantage of anyone. We honestly thought it would be an opportunity for up and coming writers to get their work out there and also generate more traffic to their own website or blog.

I'm a little sad that a personal insult is deemed as 'due respect' because it most certainly isn't respectful at all.
Therefore I'm not going to respond with an insult, but I will say this.
I have published books myself - yes, published as no doubt a lot of other people have. Yet I still offer advice and the odd article for free.
I write for 15 other blogs myself of which 6 of them are done for free. They equate to about 250 words a time and to be honest don't take an age to do. I enjoy writing them and when someone pays for them then that's great, but I've managed to open up new areas of interest by offering the odd thing for free.
It's such a shame that a post that is quite obviously not meant to offend anyone intentionally has done just that and in responding in the way that some people have is just not professional and amounts to a personal insult.
What a shame.

But I do think it's a bit different when we're talking about a PR company. That means companies - with money - are ultimately hoping to place their products or services. No offence, Fiona, but that does make the offer a bit more loaded.

I once spent a week at Centre Parcs in Nottingham and nearly took me own life.
Do I win £5?

Was that when you realised you could have gone to Turkey for the same price?
Regarding the initial posting, it seems to me that they want it both ways: a writer with experience ("...a brief description of your experience..."), yet "...new writers who have little experience...". That was called doublethink, in George Orwell's day.

Point taken, Shabo, but this is a writers community for people who love writing. It is not here so that companies can advertise their services or try exploit writers, however well meaning their intentions.

I'm with you, Naomi.

If you haven't seen this wonderful rant by Harlan Ellison 'Pay the Writer' it is entirely worth watching.

Well, I don't get out of bed for anything less than a grand, lol!

How arrogant! Most writers do that; even the ones who haven't been published, but, also, most writers dislike being exploited.
