I suppose the genre I write in could be broadly termed as "dirty realism" - the minutiae of everyday life. The novel is a multiple narrative affair that zooms in on ordinary people and their everyday concerns. I suppose it's a sort of cross between Faulkner and Carver with a dash of Irvine Welsh or Niall Griffiths. The prose style is fairly stripped down.
I am thrilled to have found a forum for writers. I don't really know many actual writers in real life - at least not where I live! I've joined up for the month free trial and will see how it goes from here.
Hello there.
I have to say, that I joined WW when I signed my first contract and it has been invaluable in helping me through those times when I didn't know how the land would lie.
I didn't know any writers either - still don't, apart from a few I've met through my publisher, but the great thing about WW is that we're all in the same boat.

Welcome to Write Words. It's a good, varied site with some very knowledgeable people on it.
Good luck in finding a publisher for your first book. There's forum thread called the Lifeboar (which Emma referred to above) where people waiting on news from publishers hang out and bite nails. (Only mention this because it's not obvious what it is from its name.) The rest is pretty self-explanatory.
Ah. I think it's in Private Members which temp members may not have access to. Sorry. But wherever you bite your finger stubs - someone will be around.
I am in the midle of reading Niall Griffiths' Sheepshagger at the moment - I like Irvine

Welsh too. (I don't know why it submitted post so early)
When your book is published let me know - I am already keen to buy. (first post so don't know how to insert smilie or yippee doo dah emoticon - maybe it's because I am not a full member)
If you put a colon : and bracket ) together you get a smilie.
A semi colon and a bracket give you a winkie
There are a few others but those are the main two.
