Hello Everyone
I've just joined under the trial membership.
I've had the urge to write for a number of years but a lack of education has always been a deterrent. I left school many years ago without any formal qualifications so have little understanding of grammar.
The saving grace may be that I've been a avid reader from a young age, so hopefully I may have picked up the basics through a kind of osmosis.
Looking forward to getting to know you all and hopefully participate in the forums.

Hi Clondon, and welcome to WW.
Reading consciously is a great way to learn the grammar of fiction, and it looks like you’ve picked it up… there’s nothing wrong with the grammar in your opening post!
If you need help finding your way around just shout up.

Hi Dee
Many thanks for the encouragement and warm welcome.
Much appreciated.

I agree with Dee - there's nothing wrong with the grammar or phrasing in your opening posting. And there are lots of people who don't have formal qualifications in the kind of work they do in their day jobs.
Welcome to WriteWords, and I hope you find the discussions here as useful as I have.

Welcome, Clondon! I agree with Dee that reading is the best training for any writer.
What kind of thing do you write/are you thinking of writing?

Again; many thanks to alexhazel, Nmott and RT104.
RT104, the main theme would be our perception of reality and different levels of consciousness. I haven't written anything yet although I've had the idea for a number of years. Over the years the idea has grown and I now feel that there may be a story to be told.

Hi Clondon, and welcome to WW.
Grammar (like punctuation) is writing's servant, not its master, so don't feel you can't write well and grammatically without a conscious, technical knowledge of grammar: you can. And others' critiquing of your work is handing for picking up any slips, so WW's very useful for that, too!

Shouldn't that be

Hi Chris, I see you've joined us in Beginners, so welcome and just a word of warning, the big boss, Nicci, has a big stick with nails hammered through it and she ain't afraid to use it.
Other than that, we're pretty harmless really. Well, okay, for the best part.
Welcome though. Good to have you.

Hi Jim
Thanks for the welcome. I think I have a weeks trial in the group so I'll just be looking at the moment. I've seen enough of the site to know that I will upgrade to full membership in the near future.
I'll keep an eye out for Nicci and her stick!
Cheers mate.

Hi Clondon
I go away for a couple of days and leave Jim in change and look what happens!
Joking apart. Welcome to WW and I hope that you get the support and encouragement that you're seeking from the community.
Nicci
PS. My bark (if I have one) is far far worse than my bite so don't let Jim's warning put you off.
JIM - I want to see you in my office in 10 mins!!!
-
Nicci, you leave me in charge? Ha ha ha, no really.
You want to see me in your office? That's not a good thing. Are you sure you want that?
Sorry. I'm all grown up again. (Not!)
Jim.
