    Hi,

I've been pointed to this site by some helpful folks over on Litopia. I've been writing for a while and have completed a novel and several shorts, my main interests as a writer are contemporary crime / thrillers but I read across a broad spread of genres.

My motivation for joining up is to meet like minded folks and hopefully gain some feedback on my work, my interest in being published is waning somewhat and I'd really just like to improve my skills and technique as a writer. I'm looking forward to discovering more about WW and hopefully I'll be chatting with some of you in the forums.

    Rob

Welcome, Rob. Look forward to seeing you in the forums. Have a good look around the groups, they have been shaken up a bit lately - uploading work into them is a great way to participate and learn.

Hello, Rob - I hope you enjoy the site. It's friendly and helpful... and if you don't like one group, just move around until you find the right one -though there is a specific crime/thriller area.

Hi Rob, and welcome to WW. If you need help, just stand in a forum and shout, or get in touch with the Site Hosts. The groups are indeed the best place for feedback and learning by critiquing others' work, but there's lots going on all over the place. Enjoy!

Hi Rob and welcome to WriteWords

As a part member you can join one group and upload one piece of work (unfortunately, SB's advice about being able to move around the groups is only for those who take out a subscription).
The groups have undegone a bit of a revamp in recent weeks, so Crime and Thriller has disappeared, but there is a range of other groups to choose from genre to general fiction. It's usually best to join one of the omre active groups, and a lot of new members initially congregate in Beginners, making it one of the most active groups on the site, and there's a good range of wriitng experience in the group.
You can also post a link to your work in the Introduce Your Work forum to flag it up to fellow Litopians on WriteWords.

The site is a bit confusing at first, but if you need any help just give us a shout.

Just to add, unlike on Litopia you cannot edit or delete posts, but only add to the post.
And as a part member, if you upload an extract you can delete it but not edit it - and bear in mind you can only upload the once.

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome folks, I'm really looking forward to getting more involved, I just need to find my bearings and the most relevant forum to post some work in.

Good to see some fellow Litopians around too

Welcome to WW, Rob. Look forward to seeing you in the forums.
The advice is normally very good and everyone is really nice (most of the time).

    Hi Rob

Just wanted to add my voice to your "Welcome to WW" messages.

I've been a member for a few months now and I've found it to be a very supportive and friendly place. Everyone says that the best way to learn is to read other people's work and give them feedback. I've certainly found this to be true. Also giving other people feedback on their work, encourages them to read your work and give you feedback.

Never having done this sort of thing before I was a little nervous at first. However, everyone is very supportive and feedback is constructive. I've definately learnt from both sides of the "process".

I hope that you settle into a group soon and enjoy all that WW has to offer.

    Nicci

My this is a friendly place

Okay, I think I've got it sussed, I upload a piece of work through the My WriteWords and then post a new thread in 'Introduce Your Work' with a link to said writing?

Then I just dive in and start chatting / commenting on work?

PS, Hello Sandra / Poptart / Flying Tart (are you trying to tell us something now...) How's Mike getting on?
