Hello! My name is Ian and I'm from Brighton. By the sea. Nice and sunny. Ice-cream weather. Lovely.
I'm new to Write Words but not new to writing. I've been kicking around various unfinished ideas for novels for the last 10 years; a not uncommon story, I suspect! However, recently the idea for a particular novel has been bubbling up inside me, demanding my time and attention like nothing before it. I hope in joining this site that I can get myself on track a little better with my writing, pick up a few tips, get a little motivation from other's successes, and share a few experiences of my own.
My writing is equally inspired by the poetic prose of late-era Kerouac, the acerbic relationship explorations of Raymond Carver, the polemics of Nietzsche, the music of The Smiths, my own multiply broken heart, and the architecture of southern California in the 1950s.
So it might surprise you to learn that I write science fiction*. My unfinished novel is titled 'The Guadeloupe Of The Stars' and it's a time-slip novel set in an alternative mid last-century. It has cocktail recipes in each chapter and talking monkeys. It's heavy on the dramedy, light on the techno-waffle, and liberal with its splashings of allegory.
* On the other hand, if it didn't surprise you then you're my kind of weird and we should probably be best friends.
All the best & good luck with whatever you're working on.
