Hi all,
I've been lurking around for a little while but have taken the plunge and subscribed to a full membership today, so I thought it was about time I said hello!
I have been trying to write for so long, and found myself getting so far then running out of steam / motivation / passion for the piece I was working on.
Finally, I think I've found where I was going wrong; I would write a chapter or even a paragraph, then would go back and edit and tinker as I was going along. Unsurprisingly, I found it so difficult to move forward when I was constantly looking backwards. Eventually, I'd convince myself that what I was writing was utter garbage and find that I couldn't go on.
I've had the idea for the story that I'm now working on for years and all of a sudden, I feel like it is practically writing itself - I'm just writing, writing, writing and have forbidden myself from messing with it until I have something solid written! I know that I'm bound to run into problems with it but I hope that just by getting it out, when I do hit a wall, I'll feel like there is a strong enough foundation that I can find a way through.
For now though, I'm going to enjoy the current writing high and I'm looking forward to getting involved round here!

Welcome to WW, Steph.
We all have to find our own way of working, and it sounds like you’ve got yours now. You're bound to run into problems (who doesn’t?) but hopefully, by that point, you'll have discovered that editing and polishing can be equally as satisfying as the original draft.
Best wishes, and give us a shout if you need help finding your way round the site.
