I only discovered this site a few days ago and have already spent hours exploring its many delights! It's great to have the chance to 'try before you buy' so this morning I took the plunge and signed up for the one month trial.

I thought I should take a few moments to say 'hi' before I get 'stuck in!' As someone who lives and works alone I never imagined that there might be a place where I could share ideas with (hopefully) like-minded people. I have only ever used the internet for basic research and sending e-mails so an interactive forum is a new and exciting prospect!

I'm really looking forward to getting involved. I'm sure at some point (when I've overcome my shyness)I will want to upload work as well as taking part in the discussions but, although I've looked, I can't find any guidelines as to the maximum length of a single piece. Can anyone advise me? Thanks, Mand245

Hello Mand, and welcome to WW!
WW is a great place to be - I've been a member for a couple of years? now and have learned so much, and also received so much inspiration and encouragement and support. Like you, I live and work alone and it's a brilliant place to 'meet' other writers - in fact, have even met a couple in real life since joining!
Naomi will know more, but I don't think there is a 'maximum' for uploading - though people tend to keep it to 2,000 words or under at a time, simply because otherwise people are unlikely to have time to read and crit more in one sitting. What kind of writing do you do?

Hi, Mand, and welcome to WriteWords

Have a look around the Groups and sign up to one of the more active ones to take full advantage of your one months free trial. Then you can upload one piece of work.
You will find when you go through the upload proceedure a little message will pop up if you try to upload a very long piece, the upper suggested limit is 2500 words, but it can be as short as you like.

If you need any help navigating the site, then just give us a shout.

If you haven't found them already, the complete list of groups are here:

If you'd like to join any that are currently registering as Full then drop me a WWmail and I'll let Admin know.

Thanks for the welcome! You ask what sort of writing I do.... that's a poser! If I'm honest I couldn't really tell you. I suppose, if I have to find a label I would say it's literary fiction, but that sounds terribly pretentious!Except.... isn't all fiction literary by definition? What I write doesn't fit into an obvious genre. I don't have the imagination for fantasy or science fiction, the deviousness to plan a mystery or the humour to write chick-lit! I just write about ordinary, everyday people living ordinary, everyday lives. Wow! Do I sound boring! Maybe spending a little time at WW will inspire me!
