Hi Again - I recently posted my first attempt at a short story on Another Writing Web Site just to see what the comments would be. I had very little feedback, but I'm not worried about that because family and writing group colleagues said it was good. The trouble is I want to develop this short story further with the intention of trying to sell it to a woman's magazine for serialising. Would I be able to legitimately do this knowing that the first part of the story has appeared on a website.
Can you delete it from the other website? If so, there there's no problem. The majority of magazines, etc, are aware that writers post their work on writers forums for feedback before submitting - some even encourage it - but you will need to remove it before submitting. If you cannot remove the material then you have as good as self-published it for free, online.

Naomi - thanks for this advice, I have sent an email to the web site and asked them to remove it. Here's hoping.
