  • Which group?
    by jb73 at 18:29 on 10 September 2008
    Hello

I've just joined today and have quick question which I'm hoping someone with a bit more experience of the site can help me with.

I'm writing a humorous, sometimes intimate memoir with a bit of a travel element thrown in. Which is all well and good but puts me in a bit of a quandary when it comes to which group to join. I suppose the obvious one is memoir but how can I tell which is most appropriate? Would it be best to upload a sample first?

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Justin

Hi, Justin, and welcome to WriteWords

It is a difficult decision as to which group to join, but as a full member you have the advantage of being able to join more than one, and/or you can move around until you find one you are happy with.
Although the groups are split into genres, you don't have to limit yourself in that respect. Some of the groups have gone a bit quiet so you might find yourself waiting a long time for feedback, but I think there are signs of life in the Non-Fiction group, or you might consider one of the fiction groups.
If you want time to think, you can always upload something in the Archive in the meantime.

Thanks to you both for replying so swiftly.

I'm not sure I've come to a decision yet, mind. Maybe I'll upload something first and see if I get any response before joining a group.

Thanks again and hope to see you around.

I've no uploaded something to the Archive. Is it usual to announce new work on a forum or do people tend to browse the Archive for new stuff to read? Or am I really best off joining a group if I want some feedback?

    Any thoughts welcome,

    Justin
