Alongside the Newcomers Forum we've introduced a new category of member today - a site host.

I've written a page explaining what a host is here:

Basically these are long-standing members of the community who have taken on the role of welcoming newcomers to the site and answering any questions they may have (hopefully most questions and answers will appear in this Newcomers Forum) - it's kind of a logical extension of the group hosts, but on a site wide level.

We're really grateful to both Nik and Dee who have agreed to be the first couple of hosts.

I think this is a great idea and I'm very happy to be a part of it.

My only question is, how are newcomers directed to Nik and Dee, once the 'Site Hosts' topic in the Newcomers forum drops down off the front page of 'New Topics'??

We'll direct newcomers to the site hosts page in their welcome email I think. Eventually we might even assign a specific host to new members.

Seriously, guys, I'm thrilled to be part of this new initiative and look forward to my new role. I'd also like to say that I'm happy to help any members – new or otherwise – if they think I can.

I would like to back tc’s suggestion that the next one should be poetry-orientated. I know the role is not directly connected with whatever we write; it might just be that new poets would feel more comfortable contacting a fellow… er… poet (just spent five minutes trying to think of an alternative word… must be taking this ‘avoid repetition’ thing too far )
