Cor… that Jonathan Drapes is a bit hunky, eh?
Sorry Roger, got distracted there… great site. It must be absolutely fantastic to see yours up there.
Well done, mate.

Very gripping excerpt, Roger. Well done. S

Congratulations, Roger. It must be a fantastic feeling. I'll make sure to buy a copy.
'Conor Corderoy' - what a name.

and by the way, that's a fantastic excerpt. Very impressed and now eager to get my hands on a copy

Terrific excerpt, Roger, very compelling. Not long to wait now (or does it feel like forever?)

I read the excerpt. I'll be buying the book.
Truly gripping.
The sweating hand on the briefcase handle: superb.

Oh, thanks everybody! I didn't realise this thread was still attracting reads. But, wow, it's great to get this response. Thank you, thank you! (Blubbers incoherently.)

I was all set to pre-order on Amazon, but think that it might be better to order it through my friendly local independent bookshop, no?
Emma
-
Well, Emma - it's really up to you! The book's not out till April (the seventh to be exact). If you wanted to order it through your local bookshop, that would be fantastic. But really, however you want to do it would be fine by me, obviously!
-
Ooh, and my birthday's the 8th - that's my present-to-self sorted out, then.
Seriously, I've been giving some thought to the best thing to get our nearest-and-dearest to do on publication (not hand them free copies, that's for sure) and I think it might be for each n&d to order it from a different bookshop. Any bookseller worth their salt will be looking to see what's being ordered by customers that the shop haven't bought as stock, and you never know what will take their fancy.

That's a great idea. I really think that WWers could have a powerful effect on each other's novels if good ideas PR are pooled like this. S
-
Specially if it's quiet, and the staff are amenable to a bit of a chat about how terrific the book is. I could no more do that on my own behalf than fly, but on behalf of another WWer it would be much easier.

It's a very good idea, Emma. I look forward to going into my local bookshop and ordering The Mathematics of Love, though I expect it will be there on the new novels display without me having to ask! (Did the ad run in the bookseller by the way?)
-
Yes, it did, and looked very good (not that any ad which by definition has to be dominated by a picture of a book can ever be really extraordinary and innovative...). Am trying to get up the nerve to drop into my local bookshop and draw myself to their attention. (One of the owners had a piece in it, too. Now there's a talking point...)

Just a quick update on Macmillan New Writing, the publisher, Mike Barnard, has written a book about the whole venture. You can read the blurb here:

I don't know how many copies he will sell, but the royalties are being donated to a charity, the Book Trade Benevolent Society.
