The Writer's Flow: Road Block or Change of Direction? - Fri 16 Aug 2013 to Sun 18 Aug 2013 - Denman College (Women's Institute)

You may have seen my up-coming course advertised in NAWE:

    http://www.nawe.co.uk/DB/events/the-writers-flow-road-block-or-change-of-direction.html

But if not, there are more details at: http://www.denman.org.uk/courses/the-writer-s-flow-road-block-or-change-of-direction/12175

I'm very excited about the course. It brings together ideas and techniques I've developed over many years from working on both 'sides' of creative writing teaching. I think we all know there can be a bit of a split, unfortunately, between literary and commercial/genre fiction, certainly in the ways they're taught. I've always been happy to learn from both sides, since each has something different to offer. And of course, fundamentally the path to good writing is made of the same paving stones whichever form you work in.

So, for instance, I've attended workshops and courses taken by literary fiction writers and teachers, and I've also been to workshops (mainly in the US) taken by highly commercial and genre writers. There are surprises on both sides!

Anyway, the course is going to be a lot of fun and a lot of hard but interesting work. Denman College is a fantastic venue in a beautiful setting. The class size will be small, so plenty of one-to-one time. Most of you know I'm also a freelance coach and mentor, so I'll be bringing that experience along too.

If you'd like to attend, the Denman link above shows you how to book. If you want to know any more about the course in advance, just drop me a WW line or ask here.
