As part of National Short Story Week celebrations, Claygate Writers in Surrey has put together a programme of workshops, readings and activities, featuring WW's own Geri Ryan (Jem), Emma Darwin (EmmaD) and Susannah Rickards (Cherys) among the tutors.

VANESSA GEBBIE- FLASHLIGHTS- a practical workshop on opening up creativity and tackling the dreaded writer's block. FRI 26th Nov. 7.30-9.30pm (Vanessa is author of short fiction collection Words From A Glass Bubble and editor of Short Circuit - a book of essays on writing short stories. Her new book, Storm Warnings is out now. All from Salt Publishing.)
GERI RYAN - STORM IN A TEACUP - writing for women's magazines. SAT 27th Nov 1.30 - 3.30pm (Geri is one of the most successful and prolific writers of women's magazine fiction in the UK. Her work has appeared in Fiction Feast, Woman's Weekly and Take A Break among many others.)
EMMA DARWIN - WRITING ON AIR - on making the transition to writing short stories for radio. SAT 27th Nov 4-6pm. (Emma is an award-winning short fiction writer who has recently branched out into writing for BBC radio. She's author of two novels: The Mathematics of Love and A Secret Alchemy, both published by Headline Review.)
SAMANTHA MACKINTOSH � TELL US A STORY - a look at the current trends and market opportunities for writing short fiction for children. SUN 28th Nov 1.30-3.30pm. (Samantha is author of teen novel Kisses For Lula and has a fifteen-year career in publishing, most recently as editorial manager at Puffin Books.)
SUSANNAH RICKARDS - ALCHEMY- a practical workshop exploring Voice and Narrative with the aim of making your stories stand out in literary awards. SUN 28th Nov 4-6pm. (Susannah has won many awards for her short fiction, including the Conan Doyle and the Walter Scott Prizes. Her first collection, Hot Kitchen Snow, is out now with Salt Publishing.)
