Cheating The Stranger

No need
to smash
your fist's
on my face,

this bright spring
ing morning

infidelity was
merely a very

detailed dream
that you were having

for me pre-cappuccino
dark adult fancies

a liberal sprinkled
by your militancy

I see you
our remembering
coming back

why not
cheat for me
this time?

that's right
I'm that
stranger

in Munich
on the train
going slow
between
stations,

telling me
we would
never last,

after 25 years
he was almost
uncanny,

still he gave you
all that hope you
carried so close,

yet stranger still
I always loved it
that way around,

him holding nothing
but his old prophecy
me holding love tight
a moth onto a candle,

one day
the stranger's
pyrrhic vision
will be fulfilled,

until then
why not cheat
on him

a little.
