Two ways to wake
Wake One
the days come in blobs
like the april rain bombs
exploding on my lawn,
the mail is squeezed
by hand into my house
world introjected into
my dreams like sex,
the jazz radio clicks on
at six past seven twice
my blues fingers leave
me tuned into snooze,
an editor's damp reply
contains a letter knife
the lords of language
sticking it to the man,
Wake Two
but hey! hey! hey!
I'm last nights
naked metaphor
on ripped satin sheets
and hey! hey! hey!
she's bad ways busy
explaining me
to an agent
on the phone
in the other room
undressed
in my shirt
doing that eyes thing
to a blind man
he sees her alright
he knows exactly
what she wears.
and hey! hey! hey!
I'm awake baby
I'm awake.
