Any Change?
My look up begged for love
but he looked for distance,
fumbled, then conjured me
change, from a handkerchief
pulled from a dip of crumbs.
I whispered 'thanks mate'
& picked a pocket full of pride,
as he smiled the smile of smiles
& held his lover closer still.
A tanned vestal
cash-point professional,
her heart set
on blowing his plastic.
Then he turned his blind eye on
& head down he headed up-town
to shop till he dropped my question.
