Can I have my country back? I want a mid-term (two years) mandatory confirmation referendum. Two thirds Yes: the government goes to full term. Two thirds No: General Election two weeks later.

Sooner or later they'd learn either to deliver, or to talk straight. Or both.

Can't escape the propaganda at the moment what with the Pope, the French 'non' and your general elections (never mind whether Camilla should be queen and whether Britany is expecting a boy or a girl).
Tedium is definately the word.

El

Must admit Britany (not the ferry I take it?) and Camilla don't reach my radar of interest. As you would expect we Brits are on the whole shamefully uninformed and uninterested in the French 'Non'.

As for the Pope one person's tedium as another's te deum I guess.

Sue - love it! Better than mine. Agree in every case.

The bold is easy but tedious {b] before each letter and [/b} after.

As for the voting dilemma - I find it ironic that we exercise ouor pathetic little vote once every 4/5 years by putting a cross beside the name not a tick. I'm toying with putting a cross beside every candidate's name, entering 'Jed Bartlet' and ticking that. But maybe the idealism of the West Wing has finally turned my head to mush.

Good fun. This democratic vacuum is far too serious to take seriously.

I love election time

the whole political system seems to go mad! Did anyone see the last question time with the prime minister it actually made me laugh. so many cheap tricks and childish tactics it was sheer entertainment.

the question i struggle with is who do i take seriously enough to vote for bearing in mind the power these people have.

Just stumbled over this and wanted to say that not only did I think it was great, but I also agree whole heartedly.
Reminds me of that joke:
A robber stops a man in London. "Give me your money!" he says.
"But I'm an MP," the man protests.
"Well in that case," the robber replies. "Give me MY money."
Cheers,
Nik.

PS A politician, learn to straight talk? Do you really think that's possible? I don't think they're allowed in if they show any signs of honesty, or morals, or ethics ... ;)

Be interesting if we 'really' had a parlimentary democracy. Lib Dems were speaking about limiting the power of the PM irrespective of which party won. If this were to 'really' happen then possibly all parties would have to work together and then 'democracy' might just have a chance of working...Ah well one can still dream, not discovered a way of serving a tax on that as yet, but I suppose if we give them time!

Zettel - I liked the approach. It's a sort of linear haiku which, presumably, could be extended to other issues too serious to be taken seriously - Howard
