"Korda"your fame name.
A mix of Ealing studio, impresario .
with the imaged dynasty of kodak`s frame.
Alberta Diaz Gatierres ;your home boy name.

Your craft adorns many a t-shirt,the portrait of Che Guevara, from photographer to iconographer.
click a legend ,to print ,you saw.

A man,an encapulation of your age,from fashion,fun,revolution
from playboy, fun loving to serious man.
Fidels chronologer;before fashion lens it`s power.

The price a fiver on the day,my mate Steve and I, on our way.
Olivia theatre, between shows, the national,(the backing of an Ayckborne play,)questions and answers night fire away.

People dotted about an audience 300 say.
There on stage,Korda and Cuban entarage.
A man down below asks a question ,ask away!

"I thought you were a man more interested in the volumptuous form ,rather than the political form".
Korda replied.

"The Revolution was beautiful like a womans body
all the great things this change can bring, to those that have nothing.-Isn`t that also worth revealing.

In my minds apertured eye, could I see a silhouette of a woman`s figure ,open up like an atomised sprinkling of being, involving into every aspect of newly awakening.

To the Cubans very own Independence ,building homes hospitals, everyone to read and write ,no-one to go without.
land of your own,now Cuba is free!

Thwarted dreams helped by dictators from the north.
Perhaps those good people behind Goliath, realising his false wrath, to love thy neighbour;hugging their love, their enterprise, their independance..

Pat,

a nice clash between icon and commercialism. What seemed at first to be a simple homage became a criticism of something great being reduced.

Another cerebral workout from your repetoire!

Cheers,

Anthony

Thanks Anthony ,Yes perhaps the last stanza should have been omitted ,as it changes the balance of the poem.
Goliath represents US.Govt.Since an economic embergo that still is against Cuba, for 43 years .Therefore the good people behind Goliath :The American people, who are themselves under the mercies of their govts. decisions not their own.
In the UN. only three countries for the embargo:The US.The Marshall Islands and Isreal.

I`m not sure if that message comes across?

I'm not up on that aspect of history, but the comparison works. Thanks for the clarification

Pat a truly well versed poem of a truly great man. Came from nothing with a history he had to work at to build his life to being a great man.

Well done.

There is a great deal of raw energy in it, and I can sense the urgency to set it down as it appeared in your mind's eye.
On the downside, errors in the text trip up the flow like uneven paving slabs. A quick spell/grammar check before submission would catch them.

Thanks Alice, on the opening line Ealing studio impresario -Alex Korda, 30`Hungarian refugee ,took over at Ealing studio`s .

Hi Paul, your right there ,about the bad text will sort out in due course ,thanks for the nudge.Appreciated.

Interesting and well researched piece!

A few points:

I didn't see the link between impressario and Alberto, unless this is a cryptic reference to those (like Gott) who mistook Alexander Korda for Alberto Korda. I guess this could be a 'play' on the words 'Kodak' and 'Korda' or that he was a photographer and needed film stock as Alexander did. Perhaps you could explain.

On the subject of 'play', the reference to an Ackbourne play in this context still foxes me though. No good googling it, it'll just bring up your poem on WriteWords!!!

Also, the inclusion of your named friend 'Steve' makes this a very personal piece. Did you intend this?

If you re-write, you might consider making it less cryptic and working to bring out your main theme of the ideal of communism and 'Goliath's' opposition. But Alberto's picture of Che is a super icon for the revolutionary spirit.

Nice writing, I enjoyed the way it made me think a bit.

Thanks Brian ,for your considered and valued comments.I have redrafted the poem certainly with your suggestions ,in trying to make it clearer less cryptic .
Alberto Korda =Alex Korda + Kodak.
Can`t remember what the play was called(should reserch -summer 2002?).
The slot between the Play being on is when Korda had his hurriedly put together meeting.

My main theme is one independant nation ,wanting a liberation for their people ,the Cuban revolution was not a communist revolution,it became one because of the isolation offered to them by the US.
When Kruschev said to Kennedy in 62 ,Castro is no Communist but your determined to make him one.
I`m not against the way they want to run their society ;I am against them being penalised for it and effectivly can`t move on. The might of Goliath is crushing. They defy and are punished.
I am not sure about the whole last verse i`m not that happy with it .
