Californians should make a group New Year’s resolution
to change their windshield wipers
so that they’ll be ready before it starts raining
instead of setting themselves up
to be the brunt of all jokes in Seattle’s comedy clubs
when they can’t remember how
to press the metals hooks together
removing the old blade and inserting the new one
all the way to the bottom and then back up one notch
snapping into place until next year
when the poor state gets laughed at again.

Funny how we laugh at a 'group' with supposed unique failings. But come to think of it it never rained when I was in CA. Still, I'm always overlooking my wiper blades and it sure rains in the UK!

My wife would say - but that's hardly a poem - I say I supprose so.

Brian:)

Original, surprising and amusing.

I like the free-form style - it has a spontaneity and freshness. I don't know how you've made wiper-blades engaging, but you have. Perhaps it's because it feels like a genuine 'snapshot' poem.

Brian, Mike, and Anthony, Thanks for the comments. I'm pleased you all seemed to enjoy it. I like vivid snapshot poems, perhaps because of the fiction side of me writing poetry. Some people call it prose. Is it? Or is it pictoral poetry? I dunno.

Hi Godfather

nice one here, compact and to the point, I like the penultimate line has a nice set of sounds to it.
