Brother, I will not meet you
or know you
or be able to see such things as you;
this nightmare of surging ocean.
I shall never know it,
could not imagine it,
not for all my years
imagine hope cast upon an unwanted tide
like pearls bouncing on a hardwood floor
slipping away.
Maybe in thousands of years, brother.
when the moon slants and wavers
then I will know
but until then
I can only gaze upon second hand images
and hold my breath.

Tina, well done. You have captured the idea that we shall never know - those of us who weren't there. We can feel in our own way, try to inagine what happened, but we shall never be able to properly know what it was like.
Very good.

'pearls bouncing on a hardwood floor' lovely image of precious things spilled & lost, also a sea connection of course. Cool.

This image shows a good eye & a sighted heart.

This is very moving. I think many poets were inspired to take up their pens and express their feelings over this devastating tragedy. I think I wrote two within days of the images hitting the TV screen! I also like the reference to beads; very visual.

Thankyou
