Natures

a human sea laps the ripped tide
a broken coast line of sapient foam,
splinters of people fired into our hearts
the Buddha's blood mixed in a crazed bowl,

our love spurts over the vaults of Iraqi dead
towards the blasted paradise of Sri Lanka,
nature storms the bleachers of our bones
love sucked out & spat into the raw dark,

here water is thicker than blood
& squeezed rock begins to bleed
here mud fills empty eye wells & skin
pops open under wedding rings,

yet extinct beings are transformed
into acts of love, beside the bodies
of our species we are made human
nature conservationists or nothing.

John, an intensely moving piece, with succinct and feeling imagery and thoughts. After the horror overload of the media coverage this has a quiet power.

Very powerful, John. I love extinct beings are transformed
into acts of love

The combination of far eastern imagery and horror is as potent as any piece of war poetry. The notion of nature irradicating life with a hate-free, clinical efficiency adds to the power of the piece.

A very moving and timely piece. It has a wonderful sense of quietness that is just right here and now.
