We can view it from a distance
safe on comfy chair.
We can turn the volume down
on a war, unjust, unfair.
We can turn the chanel over
watch a "soap" instead.
We can ignore silent screams
of terrified living dead.
We can say it's for the best
but what do we know?
We can heed the politicians
who control the oil flow.
We can empathise sorrow
for the lost and left behind.
We can weep the destruction
of man and woman kind.

I think we were all thinking this- we can debate all day about how just or unjust the war was, but the presentation on TV did give the impression of 'and a wife and her young kids have just been voted out of the Middle East House'. I think you caught the mood well.
