Lord,
if it snows
I will show
that the pale fire
lighting the way
is all the evidence needed
to know
that you are either drunk
or not going to show.

Sorry didn’t mean to sound abrupt it is just that I got tripped up

Cos if ‘I’ was a typo for ‘it’ it changes the meaning to

.. waiting for someone to come home through the snow in a car/taxi from a party of pub or it was a police car to tell you bad news?

If it is ‘I will show’, then I am still thinking about it…

A :o)

I take this as an anti-religious poem - the 'you are not going to show' is referring to the Lord, and the image of the Lord being too drunk to show is quite amusing - I like the strangeness of the 'I will show', it implies you have some kind of divine power, it trips you up, and as you say makes you think about it. Keep eating the cheese I say.

The idea of God being drunk was something I came accross in a book about Omar Kiyyam.

glad you've all found it so thought provoking
