Jack*

He is the sound of listening
a billy clubbed head lifting,
he is the charge read proudly
a shaking fist, a speaking up,
he is the raw throat of the poor
a promise kept being promised,
he is the rock in the rich man's shoe
the millionth splinter under their thumb,
he is a voice in our own silence
a poet for people to speak out to
a writer aloud of whispered words.
A lover of humans prepared to fight
the spite filled enemies of his loves.

Lovely tribute John. I must confess I don't know a great deal about Jack Hirschman, only that he is a seriously intelligent bloke and a truly renowned 'poet of the people'. He has done a lot for homelessness if I remember right?

'he is the rock in the rich man's shoe' - I love that line, quality!

Great work John

Thanks

Don

John had to read this as my late husband was called Jack.

Funny how parts of it related.
Last 2 lines was perfect and a tribute not just to the poet but to my Jack.

Many thanks.

xx Alice
