The Water Baby
The water brought you both a fish
death dancing fast in the weeds
she gave up her shining breaths,
that day by the lake your camera
caught a being becoming dead,
now you have scooped up that life
and placed it in your love's net,
and will spoon blues & greens into
a little dreaming worlds blood,
touch & tenderness developing all
an angels chemicals made human,
the deep red lake washing oxygen
through the precious curls of cobalt,
the canvas stretched over the soul
before the rough sketch is finished,
soon the sleeper will be awakened
& the wonders of love begun again.
