My love has gone but I won't cry
I'll smile and hold my head up high
I'll find a way to heal this pain
And I will not feel this pain again
My heart is dead but I don't care
No longer will I have to share
I may feel sad but I'll survive
I will enjoy my lonely life
I will live on, a single soul
Although it may be long and cold
I know I'll never be the same
But I won't play this painful game.

Hi Wiggler, and welcome! Well, we've all been there, but that never makes it any easier; your reaction strikes me as extremely well-balanced; just don't go for the lonely option for too long! You're clearly hurting, but also seeing remarkably clearly, and you've expressed all that with a brilliant simplicity. Write on!

Love & Mercy,

Mike

This really describes the feelings well, hurt, but too proud to show it - in public anyway. Lovely poem.

A succinct articulation of pain. As Mike says, we've all been there and it never gets any easier. But the heart is remarkably resilient and heals and the choice of a life of numbness, is a stark alternative.

Look forward to reading more.

Great defiance; 'I will ,I will, I will'. But don't stop playing the game. It's meant to hurt!

What a great innovation the 'random read' facility is (see the top left of the WW Home Page if you haven't yet come across it) - I almost certainly wouldn't have come across this beautiful poem without it. The verse manages to be both simple and profound which makes it very special.
But, as Carlton says, don't give up (in any case, you probably can't!) It's a cliche to end all cliches but also true that time heals.
Richard.

Yet another fine find on Random Read. It flows well, though line 4 would be better with just "And I will not feel it again".
Hoping you will submit more.
