Another Day

As I saw the sun fall in the distance
I forced myself to turn away,
But as the darkness grew around me
I could not forget the day.

Each hour of clouds and sunshine
Returned to me that night,
And I slowly began to open my eyes
To the warmth of the now lost light.

I cannot say where it rose
Or where it may have set,
But there was lonliness here
Once the light of day had left.

So I opened my soul to tomorrow
And somehow survived to see
The rays of hope break with the dawn
Revealing its beauty within me.

Surrounded by light I remember
The darkness of that night,
Yet I have the morn, and I...
I am thankful for the sight.

Funny how sunsets experienced alone make you feel something or someone is missing. I get the same feeling myself.

Kinda made me think of 'The Moody Blues' meets 'Cape Cottage at Sunset' (by W.B Glazier).

So I opened my soul to tomorrow

What a fantastic line, the rest of the poem is great too, but that one line really makes it for me.

Great poem! Really enjoyed it big time. Love the woven light/dark aspect. The theme of awakening to beauty resonated very strongly with me. A piece of personal affirmation and appreciation.

The beauty of light, forever treasured from the never forgotten experience of darkness.

A timeless, classic piece.

Emma,

Some truly spiritual images and thoughts in here, woven in, perhaps unintentional. Many religious songs sing of the coming morning in relation to Christ's resurrection. "Yet I have the morn, and I...
I am thankful for the sight." Great line. "and I..." I was feeling something at the dot dot dot. You had me.
