Your chromed whorl tempts me in
until I can't resist another second.
You taunt me with your polished oak;

my hand is drawn despite
my reticence and I am firmly trapped.
My thumb holds down the lever to

release the solid, cold,
hard sphere which tries always to seek its goal.
I hold my breath instinctively

while circles ... circles ... swoop
and whoop and swish and swirl and finally -
I win! Another try - and coin returned.

Or lose... but I don't care!
To win or lose is equal here - the joy
is in the playing. Life should be like this.

Oh Wow - the loop the loop machine!
Last time I saw one of these was at Wookey Hole where they exchange your money for 'old' pennies and you can play again like you did / I did as a child wonderful!!
This brings it all back -
The scrangling, screaming of the ball around the loop, the death defyling drop and that clanking sound when you lost!!
Great poem thanks

Delightful, Joanie. I don't know this machine, but you hooked me right in. I thought it was actually a gaming machine, but then on reading the comments, it became clearer.

This has a lovely light sentiment, yet succeeds in captivating one with the suspense created by the word 'reticence'.

Don't know the machine Joanie, but loved what I think you were saying in this - it's all in the journey, the experience, not the destination or result.

Enjoyable read.

The Walrus, I have been trying to get a link on the net to a picture which illustrates this. .... but to no avail. Thanks!
