Dear God

Dear God,
Can you tell me why people believe in your words
While they cheat, while they lie and deceive.
Why the world's honest people you can count on one hand
And the rest, me included, are sure to be damned.
It's never been easy for people like me,
We're the doubters, the dreamers, we try hard to see.
But while wars and disasters sweep countries, rape lands,
You stare from the heavens, you don't take a stand.
Dear God
Please explain it, no lies or deceit,
How do people who follow you find their belief?
I'll never be perfect, I know that I lie,
But God
Are you real, are you there when we die?
Is it true that a soul can live on for a while
'Til it finds a new life in the fullness of time?
Is it true that all questions are answered in full
And I'll soon understand all I've asked.
Is it true?
Is there really no heaven - is hell just a myth?
Do spirits and spectres really exist?
So God
Will you answer or will you deceive,
For truth more than rumour will help me believe.

An interesting question...I always thought that the benefit of a religious bringing was that it conditioned you to remember that you had an emergency number to call in the event of something happening. Unfortunately, they forgot to tell you that no bugger was at the other end to answer the call...but more seriously, I thought that we could create heaven on Earth, whether in this world or beyond, by just doing good for one another without having to be asked. If I have ever come close to figuring it out for myself [**shameless pimping/plug warning**] it's in my poem 'a lesson in Taoism'. But maybe there isn't supposed to be an answer.

Good piece.

Write on, Fearless

Excellent, probing piece; in my opinion, speaking to no-one! but that's why I like it. Keep scribbling.

Best,

Mike

I enjoyed reading this Kaydee, a question most people will have asked at one time or another, put together beautifully. Nice one.

These enormous questions (and challenges) are the stuff of poetry. Years ago, poems were commissioned (still are by Parliament and US Law)....... and the poet had to write the private interest and not his/her own. Today, American have the same system, except poet laurates are chosen not on their ability to write, but how acceptable their prose.

I admire your courage and passion to write about God and to ask significant questions. There may be no definitive answers but the questions continue and are really more important than answers that change suddenly with a change in private and public opinion

Great work.

Yes, such a question - or questions - has probed the minda and faith of millions, I am sure. Interestingly, the ancient Confucians believed that people should be polite etc to folk simply because it was/is the correct thing to to and be. This politness they believed should not require an outside arbritator - G-d- 'how quanint'

Strangly, more harm wars etc have been perpretated in G-ds name so Yes, a good question.
I found it thought provoking and enjoyable. Loved the beat in the poem, like incessant question marks.

Thank you
