Valley-dwelling
has never been my thing -
I would miss the dizziness
of twirling upon a mountain top,
the white-starred giddiness
of the horizon spinning to a stop.

And so it comes again -
the seismic shift that disturbs
the tectonic plates of my life
- my vista into a whirling
exploding kaleidoscopic blur.

[The rush of adrenalin hurricane is near.]

So, companions
who will come with me?
Fear and Excitement
vie for supremacy
but Fear knows that here
we part company,
Cynicism you too cannot
come on this trip,
As for Worry and Regret,
this is where we split.
Finally, Love,
trembling nervously
glances cautiously.
I smile with outstretched hand.

Synchronised, we slip
into poised, well-practiced crouch,
sinews stretched
tensing the tautness of our limbs,
we are stealth
as we raise our heads
rapidly assessing
the changing terrain.

Uncoil and spring
feel the gravitational pull
kick in.

Soaring mid-air,
I mouth the words
(silently, so as not to worry)
“Thor, if you’re listening….”

The Walrus, this has really got my adrenalin flowing. I love the personification (as companions) of Fear, Excitement, etc. and especially Love which is[trembling nervously and glances cautiously.

The last three stanzas are exciting! Excellent ending.....!

I want to leap off now ......

I love it. joanie

Thanks Joanie, wasn't sure if this would strike a chord - I'm glad it has for you.

Red a great piece. Like rushing around to get everything done before fleeing to an adventure.

It`s a wonderfully written piece full o f description and ultimate dramatic journey.
I like the way personify yourself as a mountain
Perhaps I missed the point but it was the start of something this journey ,Although it linked well I was wondering where I was actually going.
Possibly though that is not the point.

Thanks Patrick for your comment. The impetus for this piece was a change in life circumstances, which of course happen from time and this was, yes a rather dramatic, take on this situation. As for where it is going, that I'm not in a position to answer and as you suggest is not really the point - in fact your comments remind me of a poem by Greece's most acclaimed (and rightly so) poets - Constantine Cavafy and his poem 'Ithaca'.

Thanks again,
The Walrus

Bob

I loved this piece and it spoke very loudly to me as Change has definitely been my constant companion this year. You use imagery and personification so very well and I recognise them all! You chose the right one to take with you. I really enjoyed this and I very much like your style!!!

Fantastic!

Thanks Em, your enthusiasm is endearing (in a most unpatronising way), refreshing and contagious. Change, although normally, not welcome, IS good. And, yes, the companion I chose, is a faithful one.

However, enough about me (although it is my favourite topic of course), I see a star in the ascendance(sp?)....

Yours, demob happy (Greece tomorrow),

Bob
