This tell-tale tiredness -
a lethargy of spirit,
zapped by bitter regret.
I have not yet
served my time,
learned the requisite
lessons -
nor have I smelt
the sweet scent of rose.

Wake up! they yell
at my jaundiced features,
but the sand,
dearest friend,
consumes me
whole.

Desolate poem Bobo with a sad resignation at the end.

Find the connection between the title and the poem somewhat elusive. I can see the drowning bit but where is the naivety?

Love: 'nor have I smelt
the sweet scent of rose.' - perhaps there is some hope in the 'yet'?

Thanks Walrus.

The naivety is about not learning from past mistakes, but rather preferring to see the world in a more idealistic sense...

Thanks. I'm trying really hard not to see the world through proverbial rose-tinted glasses, but at the same time am trying not to be depressingly cynical...a tough balance which led to this piece.
