The Philosopher’s Song

Love of wisdom ain't enough (Chorus)
If you cant touch the love
Seekin’ truth don’t satisfy
If you cant see the sense
Horizons can be seen not crossed
The equator crossed not seen
Its all a case of right and wrong
In the Philosopher’s song

She has a restless mind
A heart too deep to find
Happiness just ain’t the road she’s on
If ties are chains we forge ourselves
The world still brings the iron
Old loves are the colours of her mind
Weaving dreams of joys she’s left behind
But now is where she wants to be

Chorus

She ain’t philosophical
About the hurt and pain
Or when we sell the best in us
For bein’ known and gain
Love each other
A wise man once proclaimed
And just because this frightened us
He’s the one we blamed

Chorus

Seeds of death are sown
Where children laugh and play
Bitter harvest, tragic yield
In forest, road and field
Death’s a face without a name
A child’s voice raised in pain
Man’s inhumanity to Man’s become
A crazy language game

Chorus

Zettel

Zettel I really like this I would however despite the fact that the title is appropriate think of retitling it purely because I immediately thought of the Van Morrison number philospher's stone when I saw you had posted it
greta lyrics great feelin raw sentiment a hard number raw blues or rock I guess

I think if you were to wish it as a lyric you may need to change some of the lines about to get a better flow as a lyric, it works well as a poem but perhaps just perhaps would not scan properly if set to music

Nice work. I liked the awkward, disjointed style of the whole thing.

Zettel,

I liked this. Some great lyrics - particularly in the last verse.

I like that!

But I can only hear this as a poem. Do you have a musical style in mind? Or has it already been set?

All the best

Thanks for the comments people. I'll stick with the title if you don't mind David - I should be so lucky up against Van the Man (great singer but miserable so and so on stage) For the rest, I agree, half way between a poem and a song - makes it a 'pong' I guess?

I only ever get near a song-like piece by writing a poem and then distilling. Guess it's a non-musician thing. To get round this I tried adapting a real song. Showed me how hard getting the song, as oopposed to the poem rhythm is,

Thanks for thoughts. Certainly like the idea of a rough edged rock style.

Definitely not a 'pong.' Some wonderful lines and rich imagery, there. And a lot of wisdom, I reckon. Very nice one.

All the best

Pete
