And did those worn feet,be defeated in Englands mountain green in 1970.
Overshadowing slag heaps, dreams spent, what scent to view for the lamb of God.
This sight deemed in pleasant pastures seen?

And was Kes countenance divine?
stolen but found by friend profound.
Did shine forth upon our clouded hills.
And was utopia built here in the white heat of the
revolution, as billed?

Did Billy burn the incence to boost his wistful falconry.
Clever Casper, flew his Kestral to trained desire.
Like his passioned, chariot of fire,
his bow of burning gold ,aiming for his arrows of desire!

The falcon bird hovered majestically, in Caspers own little kingdom.
This enclosed freedom of which self preserved, self imposed, will not be stable,to hold onto Kes`s life leash.
will not be able to hold onto this term of peace.

So to lament Caspers ,brothers money mis-spent.
Returns on hallowed turf not accounted for.
His elders revenge;a razor blade to Kes`s life blood.
Caused a momentary dream to be squashed out languished in a voided stream.

Back to the uncomfortable, encumbrance that betwixt his life sheen.
No Father....Mother bullied by patriarchy, cowers;her care too lean.
Christ is seen in thee,oh Casper what have we done?

What of God ,where is he,he be a she,in the face of Our Lady.
Almost forgotten, askew, outside the headmasters office
Her portrait above the punishment pew.

We all saw him Kes dishevelled, life cut out.
There Caspers soul mate, created holy spirit, does disolve!
we all came to his wake,of what resolve?
Did the falcon have a soul?
What the star of the film, never to be seen again....

No Parky ,no Johnny Carson, how profane,or did he rise again?
Many looking on, me in the 22nd row.The big screen projection, inside the audience, cause of mental flight?
Did it entice an Eisenstein, type, might(we could all be heros).

He stayed in me,me not realising until 25.12.03 10.30am?
The inner angel did fly into me, glide and hover inside,
Kes flies through and settles, in my art classroom my age 16 ,1975.

Kes tugging at my picture,of board room blight, chemical fumed trite.
Helping me find my cause, my compassion, my direction,
did you find him to?
So onwards,my sword will not sleep in my hand until, peace, justice, harmony,be built here in Englands green and pleasant land.

Blimey Patrick, chock full of images, questions and references.....haven't watched 'Battleship Potemkin', or indeed any of Eisenstein's work, but can recommend Tarkovsky (try 'Solaris'). As for 'Kes', was that Ken Loach? Soundtrack is great.

This is a very dense, rich, lyrical concoction, which handsomely repays repeated reading and pondering. With poetry, one can often point to an expression, a lyric or stanza as one of note. All I can do here, rendered dumbfounded, is compliment you on the spirit of your writing. Once again, you have not disappointed. Write on brother,

fearless

Thanks fearless for your comment;i think an exclamation is deserved by anyone that trys to understand this.

Spiritual experiences can sometimes find themselves in unusual places. On the date of the poem is when a realisation happened and then the inner flight of kes did seam to happen(admitedly I had, a glass of wine).
In someways this poem is 23 years in the making.i.e at school I had learnt about the poem jerusalem and the book Kestral for a knave, by Barry Hines and of course the film by Ken loach.
The poem tries to be after Ken loaches interpratation ,with a double exposure of the poem jerusalem and the film ,coupled with my interpratation, and consequent "spiritual experience".
Thus giving it a charterist revisionist perspective and then onto spirituality.
The thought that we saw the dead bird gives it a sacrificial
perspective.I must admit that the poem makes more sense if you have seen the film.

Solaris what a great movie !
See the Hollywood version with George Cloney,in comparison not good ,you need the gritty ,Russian misery, with people floating about ,whilse reciting a poem and Bach in the background ,and of course completely lost in space with an imagined deceased wife comes back to life, only to commit suicide, over and over again ,only the Russians could orchastrate such melancholy.

Hello Lawrenco, Firstly let me say I very much enjoyed the imagery in this piece it was good to revist the tale from a retrospective stand point and yes I have seen the film, in fact it's probably in my list of top 20 best films ever made.
I would suggest running your work through a spellchecker before posting ( as I have to with every piece I write ) editors and literary experts often dismiss excellent work without even reading it all the way through just because they become distracted by the spelling errors and typo's

Couple of examples;

"devine" ~ should be divine.
"mispent" ~ mis-spent
"Keses" ~ Kes's
"headmsters" ~ headmasters
"disolve" ~ Dissolve

there are more I could point out but I think you get my drift.

All in all I really enjoyed this write and I'm looking forward to reading more of your work.

Thanks for sharing.

Ven

Thanks ven for your versed advice.
Yes it is a cruel and wicked world where the technicians ,rule over the creative.I can`t seem to find a spell check facility on line ,but I do have the dictionary so know excuses really.
I did post this in a hurry mainly because I just wanted to get it on paper and out of my head!
I suppose the spelling mistakes do detract from others wanting to comment, anyway thankyou for yours it was appreciated.

Lawrenco.
