Cool software (Five Senses(C)) Downloaded, hooked up To a kickin’ 2 gigahertz CPU (Brain(C)) Supported by a banging 512 megabyte RAM (Memory(C)) Awesome system Powerful foundation of Terrestrial perception.
Before the dawn Of Windows(R) We did have another set up, Remember? Hardware the same Software called Instinct(C) Industry standard for ages Remember? Since BC in fact. Couldn’t zip it Remember? Not user-friendly. In-com-pa-tible with Ar-ti-fi-cial Re-a-lity.
So, we dragged it Dumped it And left it In the cosmic skip. The galactic graveyard of The recycle bin.

I liked this piece very, very much. It suggests that strides in technology may have encompassed (to the uninitiated at least) the five senses, but that it will never envelope or subsume the sixth - instinct. I liked the copyright and trademarking - a sign of our anal age. Also suggests in my mind that standardisation (for interoperability) is kinda bland, when variety is what is key. Liked the timing in the last stanza, for trashing our wherewithall, as well as the Dalek-speak (or that dreadful 'Speak and Spell' toy of the late 70s) in the penultimate stanza.
Very effective experiment, write on Red,

Great,
I still can't zip.

Walrus - I enjoyed this one too. It was surprising. Fresh. And thought-provoking, as Royals has said.

Walrus, yes, and exactly what was so wrong with the brain!? Not a humble invention by any means! 'Powerful foundation of/ Terrestrial perception' ...
Hmmm... And how would you feel if you were God here - well, I think you would be downright insulted!! Still, he made the mistake / or otherwise of giving us Free Will.
'In-com-pa-ti-ble...Re-a-li-ty'... and how Real does that kind of computer brain speak sound to you!? Certainly, not compatible with me - certainly not my Reality - sterile, stilted, robotic! Certainly, not the poetry of the soul that our brains can create! And has anyone ever created a computer that can write poetry?! That has 'instinct'? A 'collective unconsious'? A 'history'? A 'gene pool'? That has the power to evolve independently!? I think not...
Yes, it does remind me of 'Speak and Spell' - gave a whole generation of kids an American accent and no, I couldn't ****** understand him MOST of the time. 'Spell Pants' - Happily so!
So, yes, thought provoking indeed. And yes, exactly who is brain-washing (apt phrase) us into placing the computer on a pedestal!? Slightly, sinister edge to the thought there.
Challenging poem. Write on, Miffle

Thanks for your comment. In my opinion, the brain is a perfectly good tool, which normally allows us to operate very successfully in our material world. The point of my poem was to convey my view that there is too much identification and value placed on the brain and in doing so, 'civilised' society has successfully managed to sacrafice other valuble human qualities/resources along the way, such as instinct and intuition. I felt computers would be a good medium to make this point since although very clever, they do not have emotional intelligence.
Re: 'In-com-pa-ti-ble...Re-a-li-ty', no, this does not sound real to me, or I hope anyone else. I deliberately used this form to echo this lack of reality, to emphasise sterility, lack of soul.
I agree 'computer brain speak' is not poetry of the soul. I have no idea if anyone has created a computer that can write poetry. If they have, I would have thought it would be pretty awful poetry.
I don't think anyone is brainwashing us to put the computer on a pedestal. It is simple 'evolution'. I have to say, you kind of lost me on your point here.
Oh and btw, if God feels insulted, he can sue me.
