There he stood from a distance,
below at the end of the bench.
With claws upright with a Godzilla style clench.
Me supping coffee, threw him smirky frown.
In a park in london in the centre of town.

Wants me to sup up? Claws still up,
am I near his nuts, or is he playing around.
Waiting no longer he scurries across.
His acorn surprise ,back to base , with no loss of face
he looks up to show me whos boss.

He grapples proficiently up the tree.
He finds a nook homely hole,of desirability.
Looking down at me from his high chair,
in this park in Red lion square.
I glare up he chews confident, secure,he digests more.

He looks over- as if to say. "your alright mate don`t worry about your fate."
Lunch break over; heck i`m late!
I hope that bastard foreman,
shuts his unplesant unsocable face!

I liked this one, think we all relate to this as we have many in the garden.
I don't think the foreman would believe you was enjoying nature and watching squirrels play.
I would but then i'm soft.
Well done.

Like the feel of the cityscape here. Loved 'smirky frown' - you and your squirrel have a fair bit in common, it seems (!?) Yes, I've done this in London - always amazed how the squirrels adapt (the foxes too). Easy-pickings perhaps... Captured the sense of that precious, snatched lunch-hour (!); never long enough, beneath the sky - where we belong! Hoorah! Write on, Miffle

Oh, and liked the idea that the squirrel might be a cockney-geezer i.e. 'You alright mate? Don't worry 'bout yer fate!' (!?). (Hmmm... that feels liberating :-)

Also, made me think of Desmond Morris' book 'The Human Zoo' i.e. the idea that the city is the Human Zoo - whilst the squirrel, here, has maintained his essence, ways of life, wildness, freedom.

Wondering about the 'Godzilla style clench' - like the image but perhaps a bit oversized (?)... A similar dilemna arose with my 'kraken' image in my 'Springer' poem. In the end I kept it as Skeetr pointed out it could be a baby-kraken! So perhaps, a baby-Godzilla/ Godzucki (!?) here ?!

Off to feed the pigeons before a chiwag in the caff, Miffle ;-)

Why are squirrels such show-offs? A chipper, tree-dwelling citizen, showing us that everything, broadly speaking, is pretty fabgroovy. You made me smile today Patrick, thanks,

fearless

Great poem, the last few lines appealed to me - I hope he does too! ;o)

Possible typo - 'digest', did you mean to pluralize?

Iggy. xx

Watch out for those squirrels! They do defend their territory and their nuts! If you've ever been nicely bombarded by an acorn expertly aimed at the top of your head you'll know what I mean... or is it just me they've got it in for??
I loved this poem... brought back fun memories! Also liked the scene and sense of time going astray. Very well put across. I love squirrels really.

I look forward to more Great writeing... and can't help wondering whats next?

E,x.

Many thanks for your comments .Alice I don`t think I have told anyone about this event, certainly not the foreman . Squirrels; can`t eat them ,can`t kill them so all there is ,is to enjoy them...We do, don`t we.Fearless ,iggy I`m glad you enjoyed it(as for the foreman,-he`ll never know or learn).Epona Love, happy it brought back happy memories.-I have never been so lucky to have acorn lobbed at me!They must really like you ....
Miffle -you the inspiration, that reminded me of this happening .You really do have plans for this squirrel-"Squirrel invasion of the human zoo"...starring Dick van Dyke as cheeky cockney squirrel...Seriously I thought your ideas were great. Thats enough from squirreldom for today .Much respect all round see ya all again soon in the written word.

Lawrenco.

Lawrenco, one more thought re. said cockney-blighter poem. How about an alternative title?! I guess, I just think that the poem deserves one all of its own i.e that the present on perhaps doesn't do it that justice (?!). Cheeky I know (I shall blame it on the squirrel instead of the boogie!) ;-) Miffle

miffle thanks for comment-Blame it on the squirrel,or that matter the human zoo.yes the squirrel, is the free one and we are the caged slave of Bush-Blair ,double speak.Democracy ,is long hours at the corporation.Sky T.V cost 5,000euros a month which has become compulsory, but you can live in your TV set it becomes your home ,and a virtual world ,as we have killed everything in our pursuit for freedom..We can only live virtually .,Our brain waves are surveyed and scaned to make sure were not stepping outside of the established limits of thought . Sleeping is banned ,as it isn`t efficient.-Where do the squirrels come in ?There the guerrillas the urban freedom fighters reclaiming parts of England back, and by,George speaking the Queens English..There always in the Royal parks you know ...sorry is that what you meant. All the very best miffle,Lawrenco.
P.S I`m possibly a little confused.....
