QUEST FOR LIFE.

I search through the darkness, to find the light. Swim the depth of the ocean to catch my life.
Climb all the mountains reach the apex. I find nothing, not even my quest.
What of my life if you're not there, no one bothers, no one cares.
I feel in my heart a sound that beats clear. Only in dreams will you be there.

But what is it
to answer a call,
chase, hunt it down,
only to discover
it was your imagination?
To search, but not see,
to find, but not feel...
Does one retreat,
becoming fond
of their prison,
locked in an eternal dream?
Write on Al,
fearless
BTW, I think second line of the 3rd stanza should be 'you're' instead of 'your'

Enjoyed this Alice. A poem with a sad tinge. What if after all that effort, all that mountain climbing, all that reaching for the stars the one person whom you want to see again cannot be there (?) What then? Where do we go?
It reminded me of an idea (not sure where it comes from) re. feeling small in the world: 'there may be millions of people in the world but to one person you may be their world'. We are lucky in a lifetime if we find that person (as well as ourself, of course!) - And I would rather find them and later lose them than not to find them at all...
Enjoy your dreams. Write on miffle x

Oh, and yes, we can feel 'dead' without someone...

When you find that one person the world isn't small its a universe.
Anyone who feels dead without someone was never alive in the first place, and sad to say never will.

Loved this, Alice: there’s real power in a line that I’d’ve expected to refer to a quest unfulfilled but which instead points to a quest not even found. Makes you realise that no journey is worth it when you’ve already found the destination in your heart. I never seem to get the time to comment on everyone’s work on WriteWords – and I’m utterly bloody hopeless at poetry – but I’m always drawn to yours for its clarity, complexity, and even at its darkest, a quality of abiding hope.
