Yesterday,
I had a chat
with a chinchilla.
He scolded me
and twittered.
He didn't look happy
in his cage
at the petshop.
He asked me why
I'd imprisoned him.
I couldn't answer.
His eyes were
starlit black
and teary sad.
All round him,
were tanks full of
crickets, chirruping
for freedom,
not knowing they're
being saved
only for a
lizard's lunch.
They all asked me
why they weren't free.
But I couldn't
answer.
Yesterday,
a chinchilla had
a chat with me.
I asked him,
"Are we so very different
in the confines of
our lives?"
He couldn't answer
either.
