I don’t know whether or not this was generally believed, but when I was growing up - which was a very long time ago - it was claimed locally that if you buried a sixpenny piece in the garden, you’ll never be short of money. I did it with sixpence donated by my granny. It didn’t work. This poem is a warning to others. If you plant a sixpence You won’t get a sixpence tree Just a rusty sixpence This seems a shame to me

Like you, Roger, I can still remember pre-decimal currency: 12 pence in a shilling, 20 shillings in a pound and a guinea was one pound one shilling if I remember rightly. A sixpence was half a bob! All the best for 2025 by the way. Sorry I'm so anti-Trump, now more than ever unfortunately. What will he do next? What will Elon Musk do? Mind you, Sir Keir too is turning out to be an idol with feet of clay. Will Rachel Reeves have to go eventually? My cynicism is showing. I'd better stop.

I was shocked to receive the email advising me that you’d commented, Michael, but delighted. Well done on your pre-decimal currency info – I could add the florin and the half crown, but they were on the way out when I was born, so you’re forgiven for that minor lapse, and all the best for YOUR 2025. For the first time in many years I’m very positive about the next twelve months – for both the US and the UK.
You have every right to your anti-Trump stance, Michael. It baffles me because mine is diametrically opposed to yours, But I really do respect it. Interestingly, Trump’s victory is one of the reasons that I’m so bullish about 2025. But rather than argue, why not just see what happens?
‘What will Elon Musk do?’ is a very good question. He’s a very rare genius and he has my admiration for that, but he has a genius trait that is very common. He’s quirky and unreliable. He hugely supported Hilary Clinton, Biden and even Harris yet was totally against Trump until a few months before the US election, then was suddenly100% for him. More recently he became a huge fan of Farage then, yesterday, declared that he’s not fit to lead Reform. In a nutshell – his support is hugely influential, but he can’t be relied on.
I’ll be blunt about Starmer – he’s a very evil Marxist. He’s now being accused of incompetence. He’s not that, he’s doing exactly as demanded by his masters – the WEF. The WEF own both the Labour and Tory parties so, of those two, it doesn’t matter who wins an election. But gladly, he’ll soon be gone – hopefully Very soon – I suspect before Reeves.
I think I’d better go, but it was genuinely good to hear from you.
PS – cynicism is a good thing. In fact, these days, it’s necessary.
