You have an original turn of mind, Roger, so that even 'small' poems like this little epigram can suggest a hidden world of suppressed emotions. Emily Dickinson, another 'simple' poet, once wrote:
A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.
I say it just
Begins to live
That day.

P.P.S. Unlike you, I'm afraid, I'm not battling M.E. and as someone who reads FOREIGN literature not always in translation - I did Spanish and German up to A-level and have a postgraduate qualification in French - what you see as 'Fucking brilliant!' (i.e. your comment on "The Strange Vegetable") was in fact suggested by a Belgian writer called Maurice Carême (1899-1978) in a short story entitled "La Mandragore" ("The Mandrake"). "The Blind Man", which you've also commented on, is in fact a translation of "L'Aveugle", another 'fantastic tale' by him. Some people might accuse me of plagiarism but I still live in hopes of having some of the translations I make published one day. Not easy when you have to grapple with the problem of 'foreign rights' and just plain lack of interest on the part of publishers. I need them but they don't need me!

Thanks for the kind comment, M -it’s much appreciated. I’ll check out the flash fiction challenge. Good luck with publishers – you’ll need it! ‘Broken Cats…’ was published by a publisher about twenty-five years ago, and I hated the process and what they expected of me post-publication. That publisher went bust a few years ago, which in effect, gave me my rights back. That’s why I published it – along with six others – myself. Congrats on your educational qualifications and your translation work – clearly something you love to do. I won’t mention mine – you wouldn’t be impressed
