Before I set off in my car
I say a prayer to
St Adloot
for intercession,
for deliverance
from roundabouts.
Even on routes
I thought I knew
that moment dawns
when all exits are
equally the same
equally wrong
as I spin like
ascending curls
of incense smoke
as exits whiz past,
my cheek pressed
to the window
glass and
I know
I am
irredeemably
lost.

Your spinning like
ascending curls
of incense smoke

reminds me of the fragrant vapours emanating from the swinging of the thurible at Benediction in a Roman Catholic church, Bill.
St Adloot - a St Christopher for the 21st century evidently.

Love it, Love it, Love it - we've all been there!  'like ascending curls of incense smoke' - that's a great picture. But who on earth is this St Adloot bloke? I really need to know!

Thanks Michael. Yes, in an earler life I sold thuribles, chalices and ciborium from a church metalworker shop just around the corner from the Roman Catholic Cathedral at Victoria London. The first roundabout was in 1904!

Thanks Roger, Some say That Adloot was a Roman charioteer made famous when one wheel fell off his chariot causing him to drive round in circles. Others say Adloot is just a nonsense word made up by Oonah for the challenge lol.Glad you liked it.

LOL - well I'm going with the 'some people' - I'd love to have seen his face as he carried on but got nowhere. I bet the locals were in hysterics smiley smiley

Were those tear stained cheeks? Did St Adloot also invent stained glass?laugh
Brilliant take on the prompt Bill! Love it to bits and I actually laughed just at the title.
