Circling in our secret dance

Word Count: 97
Summary: For the journey challenge. I abandoned the sestina form as being so very difficult so here is an unrhymed villanelle instead.

Circling in our secret dance
interlinked we spin and spiral,
a trance in angular momentum

Pluto and Charon bound as the dead
frozen in endless release
circling in our secret dance

where the god of the underworld
leads, blind Charon sweeps in
a trance of angular momentum

prisoners of our own making
contained, chained
circling in our secret dance

the orbital resonance of our waltz
treading the Kuiper belt
a trance of angular momentum

Out there the glitter ball is dim
the audience a scattering of stars
circling in our secret dance
a trance of angular momentum

Impressive, Bill. From my brief excursion to the relevant pages of Wikipedia and the world of TNOs or trans-Neptunian objects, I have just witnessed the 'spin and spiral' you refer to as the sort of alternating centripetal and centrifugal motions of Pluto and Charon around their barycenter (sic). It looks like a dance too: a dance of death in outer space? Charon in Greek mythology was the son of Erebus and Nyx apparently and also the ferryman who guided the souls of the dead across the river Styx, a psychopomp. Your poem is resonant with all these aspects. But shouldn't Stanza 4 read:
prisoners of our own making
contained, chained,
circling in our secret dance

or am I being unduly respectful of the villanelle's set form in saying that?

Thanks Michael, you are correct, I repeated the wrong refrain and this is so much better! Good catch.

very clever, Bill. And I love the theme of the poem, right up my street!
