On a dark night bleakly

River water swirls
gurgles against reedy banks
teasing and tugging at
the lost and forgotten
things, silent
farewells
It happened again
naked in the square
moon peeking down
casting chimney shadows
criss crossing this unlit square
of narrow houses.
How did I get
so far from my bed
grit between
bare toes
wind wiped sheet
wound about me
Each night the same
each night further down
river gurgles and swirls
nibbling the banks
white fingers weaving
waiting, waiting.
