Our Journey

Summary: I hardly recognise the 24 yr old who chatted me up in the pub but 30 yrs later, he's still my everything. Not been plain sailing (what relationship is?) but totally worth it

I see you.
All bones
and wit.
An assault of
assumption
and surety.
Common sense
was no match
for gravitational pull

You were not
a safe path.
First steps
tiptoed
through a
thicket
of regret
and broken
souls

A stop start
that age and laugher
smoothed.
In indelible ink
our life's map
seeps
into cracks
in our
joined hands.

Congratulations on your staying power, Jo.
I went to a wedding in April 1973 of a couple who celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on April 14th this year.
So their GOLDEN wedding anniversary is due on 14/4/2023!
P.S. Your poem is excellent, but speaks of feelings that are pretty much alien to me unfortunately. Well done.

Jo, I love

our life's map
seeps
into cracks
in our
joined hands

and I recognise too the semtiments expressed in

First steps
tiptoed
through a
thicket
of regret
and broken
souls

and having been married 40 years now I can really relate to all of this. Noel is more all 'fat' and wit but still -- that is what keeps it all real -- the sense of humour and the commitment. It's a lovely heartfelt poem. I am sure Beate Siddrigdaughter would like this one.

Love your poem Jo, particularly that last stanza

A stop start
that age and laugher
smoothed.
In indelible ink
our life's map
seeps
into cracks
in our
joined hands.

Plain sailing! I knew I was in for stormy waters 40 years ago, but still afloat!
